A Star is Born

You're trying out for your first play at the local *(color: grey)[Theater].* You're a recent college grad and you've had no luck landing gigs! Your best friend, Trish, heard about the audition through a girlfriend and she thought of you immediately. (live:7s) [ You've rehearsed tirelessly, yet you're not sure of the [[competition...]]]

[Who cares? [[You're the best!]]] [What if I'm not [[good enough?]]]

"Alright, everyone, nice to see so many beautiful faces! If I could pick you all I would!-But since I can't let's begin!" said a stern, yet breathtaking woman. You walk over and try to get the number 5, it's always been your lucky number! "Even's to the left, odds to the right, my name is Mrs. Mattock. You've probably seen me in a couple films, commercials, and of course ***THE LION KING*!** You look down at your pamphlet and see it again **[*THE LION KING!*] **plain as day.. [[Run out and Puke]] [[Pick up your number and try to fit in]]

You frantically run out and throw up in the nearest trash can. You're embarrased and clean yourself up... You try to walk out with dignity, but its hard. You're too embarrassed to go back in, but you can't bring yourself to give up! [[So what happens now? ]]

You're next up in line. You walk down the corridor, and it leads you to a small room, and suddenly you're back in college. Everyone's looking at you, but you dont mind. It's comforting, and you open your mouth... " I will be auditioning for Nala" you say. You read the lines, almost machanically wondering if anyone can tell you're nervous as hell. You remember not to shuffle, and to lock eyes with the crowd, but you're anxious. You open your eyes, you didn't know you shut them, everyone in the room is staring at you with admiration...Right? The look on the crowds faces has you unsure if you just had the best or worst audition of your life. "Thank you for your time" you say as you practically sprinting out the door. You are embarrassed! **"God Damn it"! ** As you walk out you realize the easy parts over, the hard part is the callback. You think you're about to pass out, until you spot a bench nearby. You scuffle over and plop down. [[Starts sobbing]] [[Calls mom]]

You're next up in line. You walk down the corridor, and it leads you to a small room, and suddenly you're back in college. Everyone's looking at you, but you dont mind. It's comforting, and you open your mouth... " I will be auditioning for Nala" you say. You read the lines, almost poetically, you imagine sitting on your dads side watching lions tear at each other, and pounce their prey. And how they mourned over the deaths over their king. You open your eyes, you didn't know you shut them, everyone in the room is staring at you with admiration...Right? The look on the crowds faces has you sure that was the best preformance of your life. "Thank you for your time!" you say as you practically sprinting out the door. You are elated! **Thrilled!** As you walk out you realize the easy parts over, the hard part is the callback. [[The callback]]

You run out and can't hold anything back!! [[Calls mom]]

You call your mom and tell her you're going to be late for dinner. " How was the audition sweetie"? she says. You tell your mom you're not 100% sure, but you think you did pretty well and trying to sound as enthusiatic as possible. [[Rush off of the phone]]

" Ok Mom, well they're calling us back for some houseeeping things so, I'll talk to you later"! But you don't call her back.... [[The callback]]

You receieve a call back and you are *PUMPED!* You're happy you stuck it through and feel amazing your whole body releases, and you finally take in the scenery. You see some women walking away sobbing, and you see others calling their loved ones to tell them the good news. The list is posted on the board outside of the theaters office. ***2020 Cast List for *(color: Red)[*THE LION KING*]*** *Anthony* *Vanessa* *George* *Melissa* *Nicole* ***YOU*** *Olivia* *Patricia* You take a deep gasp and try not to seem new at this. You've been acting since grade school, then you graduated from college with a degree in Theater Arts and Management. All of those classes, and all of that time was for this moment. [[Trial and Error]]

As you're rehearsing you realize there is no place you'd rather be. You also realize there are some very talented people around you, now normally you would be nervous, but in this cae it feels like home. Hearing the African drums, all the tireless walk-thru's, and staying on your feet all day have finally paid off. [[ Showtime]]
